About San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society

San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is a Bakersfield-based nonprofit for rockhounds interested in geology, mineralogy, and lapidary arts. Members explore California landscapes for mineral specimens, study their scientific and historical significance, and create finished pieces through cabochon cutting, faceting, and silverwork. Interests extend to mining, metalworking, and fossils. The club hosts monthly field trips around Kern County and beyond, weekly workshops teaching lapidary, metalwork, beading, and wire wrapping, and monthly meetings with speakers open to the public. It participates in community events such as the Kern County Fair, Bakersfield College's Garden Fest, and Wind Wolves Preserve's Annual Spring Nature Festival. Membership requires members to be 18 years or older.
