About American Opal Society
A 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization whose primary purpose is promoting interest and knowledge of opal. Membership includes artisans, craftspeople, jewelry designers, educators, and general enthusiasts. The society holds monthly meetings in Orange County featuring guest speakers and refreshments, and runs field trips to opal- and mineral-collecting sites in California, Nevada, and Arizona (and occasionally elsewhere in the western US). The club hosts an annual Opal, Gem & Jewelry Show; the 55th edition was held October 18-19, 2025 at the Velvet Rose Event Center in Orange, CA. Membership requires a one-time initiation fee plus annual dues, with rates varying by country of residence.
