About Mother Lode Mineral Society
A 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit established in 1936, devoted to earth sciences and lapidary arts, based in the Modesto/Empire area. MLMS publishes a monthly newsletter called the Ghost Sheet and hosts one of the largest annual Gem, Mineral and Fossil shows in the state at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock each March; the show has run every year since the early 1930s except for a short WWII hiatus. The society teaches lapidary and jewelry-making classes at Modesto Junior College, from beginning through advanced levels, plus niche classes like lost wax casting and gem carving, and runs a Junior Rockhounds youth program.
