About Carlton County Gem & Mineral Club

Carlton County Gem & Mineral Club is a nonprofit rockhounding organization based in Cloquet, Minnesota, promoting interest and knowledge in mineralogy and the lapidary arts. The club meets monthly from September through June at the Cloquet Public Library and is a member of the Midwest Federation of Mineralogical and Geological Societies, which lists it as kid-friendly with an emphasis on educational outreach. The club is a longtime sponsor of Moose Lake Agate Days, an annual gem and mineral festival held every July in nearby Moose Lake that has run for more than 50 years. Club members were also involved in the effort to designate the Lake Superior agate as Minnesota's official state gemstone: in 1969, member Tom Olson carved an agate in the shape of the state of Minnesota and presented it to then-Governor Harold LeVander as part of that campaign.
