About Wyoming State Mineral & Gem Society, Inc.

The Wyoming State Mineral and Gem Society (WSMGS) is the statewide umbrella nonprofit (501(c)(3)) bringing together Wyoming's mineral, gem, and lapidary clubs. It was organized April 20, 1937, when 47 people from central Wyoming communities met and elected Lloyd B. Curtis as chairman; the group incorporated with Fremont County on May 18, 1937 as the 'Wyoming Geological Society.' As of its 87th anniversary in 2024, WSMGS had eight affiliated member clubs statewide; it now lists nine, based in Big Piney, Casper/Mills, Cheyenne, Cody, Douglas, Gillette, Powell, Riverton, and Torrington. WSMGS publishes the 'Jade State News' newsletter and coordinates a rotating statewide Gem & Mineral Show hosted each year by a different member club.
