About Central Texas Gem & Mineral Society
Central Texas Gem & Mineral Society is a nonprofit rockhound club founded in 1954, based southwest of Abilene, Texas. Its stated purpose is to teach lapidary skills, promote the rockhounding hobby, and build community among members. The club is known for Monday evening workshops where members cut and polish stones and learn other lapidary skills, along with silversmithing, wire wrapping, and bead stringing. The club also organizes field trips and hosts an annual gem and mineral show at the Expo Center of Taylor County in Abilene. The club communicates primarily through its Facebook page.
