About Toledo Gem & Rockhound Club

Founded at an organizational meeting in January 1962 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1966, the Toledo Gem & Rockhound Club promotes education in geology, paleontology, lapidary arts, gemstone crafting, jewelry making, and metalworking through lectures and hands-on learning. The club started meeting in members' homes and garages, moved to the Toledo Zoo and a UAW union hall, then to a converted chicken coop at Toledo Botanical Garden in 1974, and relocated to a dedicated craft center facility in 2021. It calls itself 'Northwest Ohio's largest rock club,' with roughly 130 members and rooms dedicated to each hobby discipline.
