About Nassau Mineral Club
The Nassau Mineral Club, founded around 1947 (the club's own site describes itself as founded 'about 70 years ago'), was originally started by employees of Sperry Corporation interested in mineralogy and later expanded to non-Sperry members and other geology interests including lapidary. The club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose purpose is to further and promote interest in all phases of geology, mineralogy, gemology, paleontology, and the lapidary arts through meetings, lectures, exhibitions, and field trips. Its fully equipped Lapidary Workshop at Garvies Point Museum lets members cut and polish rock slabs and cabochons, facet gems, cast in silver, enamel metals, and more. Membership is open to any person 16 years of age or older.
