About Headwaters Chapter

The Headwaters Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPAA) is a gold-prospecting club serving southwest Montana, founded in 2001 with an inaugural meeting on September 11 of that year. The chapter has since grown and acquired multiple private gold claims, teaching methods including panning, sluicing, highbanking, trommel use, drywashing, and gold detecting to members ranging from beginners to experienced miners. Notable annual events include the Rick Radke Nugget Hunt in Radersburg, MT, and a "trash hunt" competition. As of 2026 the chapter has 36 members on the GPAA chapter directory, and it received the Open Gate Award in 2026 for supporting Citizens for Multiple Use.
