About Tulip City Gem & Mineral Club
Tulip City Gem & Mineral Club (TCGMC) was established in 1967, initiated by Joe Moran, then the Holland Recreation Department Director, and has met monthly ever since. It currently has one of the largest adult and junior memberships of any Michigan club, with an active Junior Club that meets separately during part of each meeting with its own advisors and age-appropriate programs. Since 1975 the club has awarded nearly $40,000 in scholarships, up to $2,500 annually, to geology students at Hope College and Grand Valley State University. Its annual show, established in 1970, draws 2,100 to 3,000 visitors and features member exhibits, dealers, a silent auction, and children's activities; the club also built a 13-specimen educational geology trail at DeGraaf Nature Center in 2005.
