About Michigan Mineralogical Society

The Michigan Mineralogical Society (MMS) was organized in March 1935 by a group of Michigan mineral collectors, making it the oldest society in the Midwest Federation and in Mid-America. MMS is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization dedicated to furthering the hobby of finding, identifying, and preserving gems, minerals, and fossils, and to promoting geology and earth-science education. Regular meetings feature a short business meeting followed by an expert speaker on mineralogy, geology, paleontology, or the lapidary arts. Each October, MMS hosts its flagship gem and mineral show at the Macomb Community College Sports & Expo Center, featuring displays from around the world and drawing thousands of visitors.
