About Michigan Gem & Mineral Society

Michigan Gem & Mineral Society (MGMS) is a chartered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Michigan Center that held its first meeting on March 4, 1954. The society brings together rock, mineral, and fossil enthusiasts who share their common interest and make new friends. During the year MGMS goes on several field trips to locations in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and beyond, and it welcomes rockhounds of all experience levels, from novices to experts. The club offers a Handicrafters group for hands-on creation, awards $1,000 education scholarships to high school seniors studying Earth Sciences and Lapidary Arts, and covers show admission/transportation costs for educator scholarships.
