About Kalamazoo Geological & Mineral Society

Kalamazoo Geological & Mineral Society (KGMS) is a 501(c)(3) educational organization headquartered in Portage, Michigan, whose main purpose is to further interest in gems, minerals, geology, paleontology, and lapidary arts. The club recently celebrated its 65th anniversary and is affiliated with the Midwest Federation of Mineralogical and Geological Societies and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. KGMS holds general meetings, a Kids Club, field trips, and an annual tailgate and silent auction, and provides geology scholarships to Western Michigan University graduate and PhD candidates as well as support for children's rock and mineral programs through the Battle Creek Community Foundation. The society's Rock & Gem Show is one of the largest and best-attended in Michigan, featuring roughly 50 mineral, gem, and jewelry vendors.
