About Georgia Mineral Society Inc

The Georgia Mineral Society (GMS), founded in 1935, describes itself as the oldest and largest gem and mineral society in the Southeast. Based in Norcross, Georgia, GMS is a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating members and the public in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, and related earth sciences. The society holds hybrid (in-person and virtual) general meetings and organizes activities through specialty sections covering minerals, fossils, gems, micromounting, sand collecting, tumbling, and junior members. GMS is a founding member of the Southeast Federation's Dixie Mineral Council field-trip-sharing program and actively organizes member field trips. Its "GMS Juniors" section, for members under 18 still living at home, offers Saturday meetings and hands-on educational activities with a free specimen at each session. GMS hosts an annual Mother's Day Weekend Gem, Mineral, Jewelry, and Fossil Show in Cobb County.
