About Cobb County Gem & Mineral Society
Cobb County Gem & Mineral Society (CCGMS) is a nonprofit organization in Marietta, Georgia, founded in 1967 and chartered in 1970 by amateur geologists, rockhounds, jewelers, and rock and mineral enthusiasts. The club operates a restored clubhouse with three lapidary workshops, a meeting room, and kitchen facilities, and has drawn members from Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and beyond over its history. CCGMS offers monthly meetings, first-Tuesday lapidary classes, a Junior Rockhounds program for members ages 6 to 106, a rock swap, an annual picnic and auction, and jewelry-making classes; first-time visitors can attend a meeting for free. The society hosts an annual show at the Cobb County Civic Center featuring dealers, exhibits, and demonstrations, and has grown from 44 members in 1970 to as many as 700 members in the late 1970s.
