About Des Plaines Valley Geological Society
Des Plaines Valley Geological Society (DPVGS) is one of the oldest earth science clubs in the Chicago area, dedicated to educating and promoting the earth sciences and related arts. The club's mission is to promote the lapidary hobby in all forms, including minerals, fossils, gemstones, and jewelry. Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of the month (except June, July, August, and December) at the Des Plaines Park District Leisure Center. The club runs an annual gem, mineral, fossil and jewelry show each spring, schedules field trips, and often closes meetings with a member potluck.
