Founded in 1972, the Bristol Gem and Mineral Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organized to foster interest in the earth and geological sciences, minerals, and the lapidary arts. Members include mineral collectors, jewelry makers, gem cutters, and nature enthusiasts. The club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the dining room of the Douglas Beals Senior/Community Center in Bristol, Connecticut, with meetings featuring speakers, films, refreshments, door prizes, and silent auctions of specimens. The club operates a Lapidary Center equipped with trimming saws, a drill press, and grinding and polishing machines. New members can join by attending a meeting or mailing in a membership form; dues are tax-deductible. The club hosts an annual Gem & Mineral Show each fall with dealer tables, demonstrations, and free admission for Scouts and 4-H members with their leaders.
