About Columbine Gem and Mineral Society
A public, non-profit club founded in 1947 serving the geologists, prospectors, lapidaries, and jewelers of Chaffee County, Colorado (Buena Vista, Salida, Nathrop and surrounding area). The society is focused on rockhounding, fossils, artifacts, lapidary work, and earth science, and describes itself as very family-friendly, welcoming members from beginners to formally trained geologists. It runs summer/fall field trips to local areas and mining claims, with gold prospecting and rockhounding as primary activities.
