About Springfield Thunderegg Rock Club
Originated in the late 1950s when a small group of Eugene Mineral Club members split off to form their own club; became an officially recognized educational organization in 2005 as the Springfield Thunderegg Rock Club. The club is credited with the effort that led Oregon to become the first state to name an official State Rock (the Thunderegg, 1965). Activities include an annual free-admission Rock and Gem Show, a $1,000 scholarship to graduating high schoolers from Eugene or Springfield, rock-identification programs for elementary schools, displays at the Springfield Public Library and the Oregon State Capitol, demonstrations at Springfield's Children's Celebration, adult education lectures through Willamalane Adult Activities Center, and rock-bag donations to graduates of the S.M.A.R.T. reading program.
