About Oxford County Mineral & Gem Association

The Oxford County Mineral and Gem Association (OCMGA) was organized in March 1948 by a group of mineral collectors who met at the home of Dana Putnam in Rumford Corner, Maine. The club's purpose is to bring together people interested in mineralogy and geology through the exchange of information and specimens, maintained through social meetings and friendly discussions, and it emphasizes safety practices during field activities and awards scholarships when funding allows. It is a member of both AFMS and EFMLS. OCMGA connects collectors, hobbyists, families, and curious beginners through field trips, friendship, and a shared enthusiasm for minerals and geology, drawing on the area's historically rich pegmatite mines. Its flagship public event, the Western Maine Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show, is now in its 62nd year.
