About Kennebec Rocks and Minerals Club
Kennebec Rocks and Minerals Club is a nonprofit rockhounding club serving the Augusta, Maine area, organized in 1960 and a member of the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies since 1982. The club is dedicated to the pursuit of rockhounding in all of its phases, and to the education and guidance of its members and the public in furtherance of the hobby. It publishes a newsletter called 'The Kennebec Rockhounder' and holds monthly field trips, usually the Sunday following the regular meeting, giving members a chance to find mineral specimens around Maine. Its best-known public event is an annual Labor Day weekend gem and mineral show at the Augusta Armory, featuring over 20 vendors selling rocks, minerals, fossils, jewelry, gems and gifts, plus cabochon demonstrations, fluorescent mineral displays, a silent auction and hourly door prizes.
