About Cedar Valley Rocks and Minerals Society

Cedar Valley Rocks and Minerals Society, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a 501(c)4 nonprofit corporation organized to study the sciences of mineralogy, geology, and paleontology and the arts of lapidary and gemology. Founded in 1951, it draws roughly 110 members from the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City area, across Iowa, and surrounding states. The society hosts regular meetings, field trips, an annual Rock, Mineral and Fossil Show, and a two-day auction. It gives back through scholarships, food bank donations, school speakers, and support of the Van Allen Science Teaching Center, the Eastern Iowa Science Fair, and the Connections program.
