Geology notes

See lithology. "This fauna [grades eastward into] black Ilion Shale...which bears Lingula-dominated (BA1 to 2) fauna..and passes westward into Caryocrinites-Eucalyptocrinites or biostromal Favosites-Stromatoporoid biofacies (BA 3) of the Penfield dolomitic sandstone. This seems to bracket the assemblage, placing it in Ba 2. the fine lamination and dark, bituminois nature of the carbonate suggests euxinic, low energy nearshore conditions. These sediments may have been deposited in sheltered lagoonal to lower tidal flat environment shoreward of the Penfield-Gasport sandy, skeletal banks."
