Annual show
Wisconsin Geological Society Rock & Gem Show — May 16-17, 2026
About Wisconsin Geological Society
Founded in early 1936 at the Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) by museum workers who began holding evening meetings to discuss rocks, minerals, and fossils; the MPM provided its Trustee Room for meetings and the Milwaukee Journal offered publicity support. Chartered 501(c)(7), Midwest Federation member since 1940. The society played a role in establishing the trilobite (Calymene celebra) as Wisconsin's State Fossil in 1986, publishes the "Trilobite" newsletter, and partners with UW-Milwaukee's Department of Geosciences. Members participate in field trips (quarry trips), study groups, mineral shows, guest presentations, museum visits, and social gatherings. Holds its annual show at the Waukesha Expo Center-Forum Building.
