About Delaware Mineralogical Society
Delaware Mineralogical Society (DMS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Wilmington, Delaware, founded in 1960 and dedicated to the promotion and education of mineralogy, paleontology, and the lapidary arts. Membership spans professional scientists and educators alongside hobbyists and students. DMS was instrumental in Delaware's adoption of Sillimanite as its official state mineral in 1977. The society organizes field trips during the year to locations in Delaware and other states, including private quarries and museum trips, publishes a monthly newsletter called 'The Geogram' (September-June), and is affiliated with AFMS and EFMLS plus the Delaware Geological Survey and Delaware Museum of Nature & Science. It hosts an annual gem, mineral, and fossil show each spring.
